Summer Research Opportunities for Harvard Undergraduates
Summer 2008
The CitySense project is looking for talented undergraduates to undertake independent research projects over the summer. This is a great way to kickstart a research career, especially if you are interested in applying to graduate school or doing a senior thesis.
CitySense is an NSF-funded project to develop and deploy a 100-node wireless sensor network across a city. There are many exciting opportunities for research. Some of the summer project ideas we have include:
- Kernel and 802.11 network hacking
- Implementing security features
- Automatic failure detection and recovery
- Designing core system software for testbed monitoring and management
- Running experiments of network performance
- Building interfaces to new sensors
Students should have C programming experience (CS50, CS61, or CS161 preferred) and be comfortable working in a UNIX environment. You need not be a CS concentrator to apply.
Summer research projects generally run from June 1-August 15, but the specific dates are flexible. This is a full-time position. You will work closely with a team of graduate and undergraduate students in our lab in Maxwell Dworkin. These positions are only open to Harvard undergraduates.
Application instructions
To apply for a summer research position, please send the following information to Prof. Matt Welsh at mdw@… by February 7, 2008.
- A short cover letter explaining your interest in the project, your programming skills and background
